Paul W.S. Anderson updates Resident Evil 6; reveals title & co-star

We've known for a while that Sony/Screen Gems and director Paul W.S. Anderson have wanted to continue their RESIDENT EVIL franchise, learning last year that a sixth film was planned for a September 12 2014 release. But things changed, as they are oftentimes apt to do, with POMPEII taking some time to complete, and in February we learned that it could still be a while before the latest RESIDENT EVIL film headed in front of the cameras, with Anderson explaining…

“we’d like to do another Resident Evil movie. Definitely.  But the wheels aren’t quite in motion yet.”

Now it seems the wheels are beginning to turn a bit as Anderson recently spoke at the Beijing International Film Festival and CCTV quoted him on a few relevant pieces of RESIDENT EVIL 6 info, including a title reveal and who we would see returning to co-star. Says Anderson…

I have to go home tomorrow for 'Rising Resident Evil'. That's what I'm going to do. As you know, Bingbing is in the last movie and she will be there again. .. After 'Resident Evil' I want to come to China and shoot film again."

While the quote says the film is titled RISING RESIDENT EVIL, we suspect that something could've gotten lost in translation and that the title could be RESIDENT EVIL: RISING. Hopefully we'll have clarification on that soon. It's also cool to hear that Bingbing Li, who played Ada Wong in RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION, would be returning for more action.

Anderson also says he believes 3D technology has now become the fabric, rather than just a special sauce, for a film, and that his next RESIDENT EVIL film will "definitely be 3D".

More on RESIDENT EVIL 6, aka RISING, as we hear it.
