ShockTillYouDrop has gotten a look at a promo poster for John Hillcoat’s adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s great Pulitzer prize winning novel, THE ROAD. And according to that poster, Guy Pearce has joined the cast.
Since the entire novel is basically a two-character drama featuring a father (Viggo Mortensen) and his son, I’m not quite sure who Pearce would be playing – unless it’s one of the briefly seen cannibals they meet on their journey. (Of course, it may also be a character not in the book.)
Pearce previously worked with Hillcoat on the grim, violent western THE PROPOSITION, a movie that might just look like FANTASIA after we’ve gotten a look at THE ROAD. If you’re unsure, McCarthy’s novel is set in the aftermath of the apocalypse. A nameless man and boy walk a neverending road southwards, while struggling to survive starvation – and the hordes of vicious cannibals that scour the wasteland. It’s a heavy book, and will make for some glum viewing. But the source material is terrific, so there’s a good chance Hillcoat’s film will be f*cking outstanding.
