Pedro Almodovar and Antonio Bandaras get a Skin Habit

Spanish director and Oscar winner Pedro Almodovar will re-team with Antonio Banderas “La piel que habito.” (English translation: THE SKIN HABIT.) This will be the fifth team-up between the two, but the first since 1989’s TIE ME UP! TIE ME DOWN!

According to Variety, “Piel” very loosely adapts the 1995 novel “Mygale” by Thierry Jonquet. Here’s the synopsis for the novel: Richard Lafargue, a well-known plastic surgeon, pursues and captures Vincent Moreau, who raped Lafargue’s daughter and left her hopelessly mad in an asylum. Lafargue is determined to exact an atrocious vengeance, and an ambiguous, even sadomasochistic relationship develops between self-appointed executioner and victim.

Almodovar describes “Piel” as “a horror story without screams or shocks.” Almodovar first announced “Piel” in 2002, hoping it would star Banderas and Penelope Cruz. Having undergone nine re-writes since Almodovar first attempted a big-screen makeover after 1999’s “All About My Mother,” “Piel’s” current version no longer has an appropriate role for Cruz, Almodovar told Spanish newspaper El Pais Wednesday.

Sounds like it could be a compelling watch, with our without the spicy Ms. Cruz. In her honor, I will post a super sexy picture of her. It’s my duty.
