Pedro Pascal in talks to menace Denzel Washington in The Equalizer 2

Not only will THE EQUALIZER 2 give Denzel Washington an opportunity to remind audiences of just how much of a bad-ass he is, the sequel will also represent Washington's first sequel in his entire career, which seems pretty rare in this day and age. Even before the success of the first film, Sony was quick to get the ball rolling on a sequel by tasking Richard Wenk with penning a follow-up, and although development may not have proceeded quite as quickly as the studio was hoping, it's expected that production on THE EQUALIZER sequel will get underway later this year.

If you're going to hand Denzel Washington an assortment of death-dealing weapons, you'd better give him someone worthy of his attention, and Variety reports that Pedro Pascal (Narcos) is currently in negotiations to play the antagonist in THE EQUALIZER 2. Not much is known about just who Pascal's character would be, but it's suspected that he could be the leader of another high-powered gang. Denzel Washington will be reprising his role of Robert McCall, "a former special ops agent who now helps those who can’t defend themselves." Antoine Fuqua will also be back to direct the sequel, which will serve as his fourth movie with Denzel Washington.

Pedro Pascal has certainly seen a big bump in his career following his recurring role of Oberyn Martell in Game of Thrones, following that up with a starring role in Netflix's Narcos and appearing in the upcoming KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE as a lasso-wielding member of The Statesman. The KINGSMAN sequel will hit theaters next month and THE EQUALIZER 2 is set for a September 14, 2018 release.
