The actress joins the elastic Jim Carrey (I LOVE YOU PHILLIP MORRIS) and the scorching Carla Gugino (SUCKER PUNCH) in the adaptation of the award-winning book by Richard and Florence Atwater. The story is about “a high-powered businessman (Carrey) who inherits six penguins. As he gets acquainted with, and increasingly attached to, his winged roommates, Popper’s life quickly unravels. His swanky New York apartment is turned into a snowy winter wonderland, the deal he’s long been working on is derailed, and he almost lands in jail. But thanks to his new charges, Popper comes to understand the importance of family, human and otherwise.” Lovibond will play Carrey’s personal assistant while Gugino plays his wife. n00dz? Probably not. 🙁
MR. POPPER’S PENGUINS was originally going to be headed by Noah Baumbach (GREENBERG… one of the better films of the year) with Ben Stiller in the lead, which automatically would’ve made this a more interesting project. Alas, Fox has opted to go the populist route with its penguin tale, putting director Mark Waters (GHOSTS OF GIRLFRIENDS PAST, MEAN GIRLS) at the helm, effectively making me not give a f*ck.
