The 1989 film PET SEMATARY isn’t exactly a great movie. That said, it’s notable for two scenes that still scare the crap out of me over 20 years later. First, is when that creepy little Gage sneaks in the house and slits the Achilles tendon of poor Fred Gwynne. Second, and probably more notable, is Zelda. This still gives me the heebie-jeebies when I watch it. Raaaaaachelll! Yeeps.
So let’s hope that whatever Paramount is cooking up for the PET SEMATARY remake, they keep both of those things intact. And the person to address those concerns to would be Matthew Greenberg (1408), the newly hired writer who’ll be working on adapting Stephen King’s book for a new audience. A script was originally written by Mike Werb and Michael Colleary (FACE OFF) that somehow had the interest of George Clooney. But that was back in 2006 and Clooney’s interest seems to have waned and Greenberg will write a new script from scratch.
