Now I’m pretty sure most of you guys out there know that there’s a movie on the way based on the popular board game BATTLESHIP, right? Right. So normally we would completely write off something like this. Normally… You see this BATTLESHIP movie isn’t a ‘normal’ BATTLESHIP movie. Allow me to explain.
Firstly it’s got Peter Berg behind the camera, who just so happens to be the guy that brought us the Summer blockbuster HANCOCK. Secondly, the flick just scored it’s leading man in the form of Taylor Kitsch. THE HURT LOCKER’s Jeremy Renner was up for the role but scheduling conflicts arose. And thirdly, there’s going to be aliens in this son of a b*tch!
That’s right ladies and gents, Berg is taking the teasured board game from our childhood, ‘traditionally seen as a grounded Naval game,’ and throwing it into a blender with aliens and ‘Gambit’ from WOLVERINE. He’ll also be adding ‘a female lead and a Japanese commander’ into the mix.
An international fleet come together to battle a water-bound armada of otherworldly origin.
The script comes from the writing duo of Jon and Erich Hoeber. Kitsch will be starring as Alex Hopper, a Naval commander who’s wildly spirited and a great seaman but a lousy politician. Man, Universal isn’t kidding with these board game flicks huh? So now that BATTLESHIP has added some extraterrestrials to the mix it seems like it may end up sailing right down our alley. .. Sorry.
