After seeing Peter Jackson’s KING KONG, I was glad to hear the news of him going back to that “smaller film” he always talked about doing after LORD OF THE RINGS. The “smaller film” he was referring to is LOVELY BONES, and it’s written by the same dudes who wrote the LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens. Apparently Jackson is triggering what will be one of the greatest Hollywood bidding wars over LOVELY BONES, as it is looking for a studio to back it. Yes that’s right, a Peter freakin’ Jackson movie is going to be bid on by studios…sounds like things are going to get pretty damn expensive.
Back in 2004, Jackson got his hands on the rights to LOVELY BONES but it has taken him up to this point to get the project off the ground. Can’t really blame him though, the dude still gave us some of the coolest films known to man.
LOVELY BONES is based off of a book by Alice Sebald and is about a 14-year-old girl who is raped and killed. Her spirit, however, keeps watch over her family and her killer.
