Peter Jackson finally confirms Orlando Bloom returning for Hobbit

This is hardly breaking news considering word on Orlando Bloom’s return to Middle Earth leaked in December, but now we have official confirmation.

Peter Jackson took to his Facebook page this afternoon and confirmed that Bloom will return as Legolas for THE HOBBIT films. Said Jackson in his post, “Ten years ago, Orlando Bloom created an iconic character with his portrayal of Legolas. I’m excited to announce today that we’ll be revisiting Middle Earth with him once more. I’m thrilled to be working with Orlando again. Funny thing is, I look older—and he doesn’t! I guess that’s why he makes such a wonderful elf.”

Back in December it was reported that Bloom would return for more than a cameo but less than a starring role. I don’t think it’s surprised anyone that Bloom is returning (and reportedly for a hefty sum) and I’m curious why it took this long to get an official announcement. Either way, it’s one last bit of continuity between the original LORD OF THE RINGS series and THE HOBBIT.
