Any fans of 4/20 out there? Yeah, thought so!
So if you’re Peter Jackson, how do you compensate for critical drubbings and a lackluster box office take for a flick based on a universally loved best-seller? Here’s one…take the same marketing campaign you allocated for theatrical promotion and use that shite for the DVD pimpage as well.
Such would seem to the case for Jackson’s THE LOVELY BONES, which is already slated for an April 20th DVD release. Not only that, paramount announced that the flick will be released as a 1-Disc DVD ($19.99) and a 2-Disc Blu-ray edition ($29.99). No bonus material or special features have been announced at this point.
To be honest, after initially falling off the map in limited release, THE LOVELY BONES actually did quite well when it went wide a few weeks later. And despite retaining critical assault, the second round of marketing to the TWILIGHT tween girl demographic certainly helped the flick strike a chord in audiences.
Maybe now, with all the gaudy, tripped out CG renderings of the hereafter, Jackson and company are targeting the bona fide stoner crowd. As our man Eric astutely noted, being high for such a film probably isn’t a bad thing (of course, he did NOT find THE LOVELY BONES as charming as say…our head pimp The Arrow).
