PGA noms announced

I don’t like to waste all your time with the countless nominations and lists by all the critics groups and professional associations out there. In the end, they usually mean very little. But the Producers Guild of America (PGA) is one of the better predictors of Oscar success out there. As they’re proud of saying, the PGA winner for Best Picture has won the Oscar Best Picture 13 out of the past 20 years. Like the Oscar this year, the PGA has expanded their nominations to 10 selections and these be them:

– AVATAR
– DISTRICT 9
– AN EDUCATION
– THE HURT LOCKER
– INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS
– INVICTUS
– PRECIOUS
– STAR TREK
– UP
– UP IN THE AIR

The list is surprisingly heavy on sci-fi type films with AVATAR, DISTRICT 9, STAR TREK and, of course, INVICTUS (wait…what?). While we’re here I can also tell you that the nominees for Best Animated Film were 9, CORALINE, FANTASTIC MR. FOX, PRINCESS AND THE FROG and UP. The winners of the PGA awards will be announced on January 24. Oscar nominations will be announced on February 2.
