Philip Seymour Hoffman and Rachel McAdams search for A Most Wanted Man in this international trailer

Author John Le Carre has provided the source material for great movies like THE CONSTANT GARDENER and TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY. The latest film adapted from one of his novels is Anton Corbjin’s A MOST WANTED MAN starring Philip Seymour Hoffman and Rachel McAdams. We also now have our first look at an international trailer for the thriller set to debut this year.

Corbjin has directed the films CONTROL and THE AMERICAN but is best known for his music video work. A MOST WANTED MAN looks to be tonally similar to THE AMERICAN with an even bigger cast boasting Willem Dafoe, Robin Wright, and Daniel Bruhl. There doesn’t seem to be much levity in this first trailer for the movie but we do get a damn interesting speech from Hoffman as a German agent bent on finding a potential extremist before anything bad can befall the citizens of Hamburg.

When a half-Chechen, half-Russian, tortured half-to-death immigrant turns up in Hamburg’s Islamic community, laying claim to his father’s ill gotten fortune, both German and US security agencies take a close interest: as the clock ticks down and the stakes rise, the race is on to establish this most wanted man’s true identity – oppressed victim or destruction-bent extremist?

Much like THE CONSTANT GARDENER dealt with delicate political issues in an artfully directed film, A MOST WANTED MAN looks to be more than just a standard BOURNE-style action movie but rather an intricately plotted thriller of a high caliber. The movie is set to premiere at Sundance on January 19, 2014 and Lionsgate has not announced a domestic release date but expect one sometime later this year.
