We’re not the only ones anticipating the announcement of who will play the next James Bond in Denis Villeneuve’s Bond 26. While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter about the second season of Paramount’s MobLand, former Bond actor Pierce Brosnan said he’s as excited as anyone to learn who’s next to step into the black oxfords of the iconic superspy.
“I’m just a member of the audience now — I will not find out before any of us. It’s exciting. It’s wonderful. It’s exhilarating. We all want to know,” he said, in response to Page Six‘s recent report that Jack Barton (Heartstopper, Poor Things, Elden Ring) has emerged as a frontrunner.
“Whoever the man is, I wish him well. Stand tall, stand strong, own it and be great,” he adds.
Gary Oldman Backs His Slow Horses Co-Star
Two weeks ago, Gary Oldman said his Slow Horses co-star, Jack Lowden, had already been chosen to play the next James Bond, and that the studio hadn’t announced it publicly yet. Oldman has since clarified those comments, noting that he doesn’t actually have inside knowledge and was simply publicly backing his co-star, but his vote still firmly goes to Lowden. While speaking with THR, Oldman said, “It’s been rumored that [Lowden] is on the shortlist… we’re going to find out pretty soon, aren’t we? Because they have picked him. They have made their choice, but they have not announced it yet. So my fingers are crossed for Jack.”
When Will the Next James Bond Be Announced?
Amazon may have already found its next Bond, but it doesn’t want to make the news public until Villeneuve wraps his publicity tour for Dune: Part Three. Think about it: If Villeneuve’s trying to promote his final Dune film, but journalists catch wind of the next Bond, that could take the focus off Dune, and no one wants that, especially Warner Bros. I tend to trust Chris’s judgment when it comes to Bond-related matters, but we’ll need to wait and see.
