Pinar Toprak to score Captain Marvel; Becomes Marvel’s first woman composer

On top of introducing the world to one of the Marvel universe’s strongest characters, CAPTAIN MARVEL will mark a lot of firsts for the MCU. For starters, it will be their first female-led solo movie (with Brie Larson), as well as their first movie to have a female director (Anna Boden co-directing with Ryan Fleck). Now the movie has secured another first by hiring Pinar Toprak to compose the score for the movie, making her the first female composer in the MCU.

Toprak – who is also behind the scores for SyFy’s KRYPTON (listen to the theme here!) and the biggest video game around right now, “Fortnite” – took to Instagram to share the news and her excitement about the job. “I’m so thrilled to finally announce that I will be scoring the upcoming CAPTAIN MARVEL!” she said. “It’s an incredible honor to be a part of the Marvel Universe. So many thoughts racing through my head. And the main one is gratitude. “

Toprak has done many smaller projects over the years, and MARVEL marks her biggest gig yet. In the past, Marvel has hired composers such as Brian Tyler, Michael Giacchino, Alan Silvestri and more to compose their works, with these three coming back for several films.

We here at JoBlo send our congrats to Pinar for getting such an amazing opportunity, and we're all anxious to hear what she cooks up. Marvel's music hasn't always gotten the most acclaim in the past, but recent scores for BLACK PANTHER (Ludwig Goransson) and THOR: RAGNAROK (Mark Mothersbaugh) have gotten some of the best marks yet. We wish her all the luck in creating what should be a marvelous score.

CAPTAIN MARVEL is set for March 8, 2019, and Marvel's next movie ANT-MAN AND THE WASP arrives July 6.
