Piranha pushed back

A couple of weeks back the upcoming A NIGHTMARE ON ELM ST. remake changed it’s release date from April 16th to April 30th because it didn’t want any competition during its opening weekend. Either Fox doesn’t give a flock about competition or Alex Aja just needed a few more weeks to put the finishing touches on PIRANHA 3D, because like a savage fish swooping in for the kill, PIRANHA 3D just swooped in and snagged the April 16th release date like its nobody’s business.

Originally slated to hit theaters March 19 2010, the new date has PIRANHA 3D slamming into theaters almost 4 weeks later. Normally a move like this, pushing a release date back a full month, would be a bad sign, as if the studios were terrified of the film they had and want the filmmakers to have more time to make it better. But considering this sucker is moving even closer to the summer movie season, and closer to other big horror films like NOES, I’m gonna say I don’t think we have anything to worry about. Hell, it might be even better than we originally thought it was going to be.

Also to note, the comedy THE LOSERS, which was originally slated for April 16th and the only real competition being released that day (and the reasons for NOES to move back 2 weeks) has moved up a week to April 9th, leaving only MACGRUBER as the other film being released April 16th. Nice! Of course, this is one week before THE EXPENDABLES hits theaters April 23rd… so what does this mean? April 2010 is gonna be one flippin’ busy month of awesomeness, that’s what!
