Simply titled PLAN 9, the remake is to be written and directed by John Johnson, based on Wood’s original screenplay. In its truest form, remakes are supposed to be better than the original, so remaking a movie as bad as PLAN 9 is a great idea… on paper. But the more I think of it, the more I feel like PLAN 9 is, no matter how bad it is, is a freakin’ classic that shouldn’t be remade. Yes, it could be improved, but part of its charm is how bad it is, yet this guy Johnson wants to make it good. What up with that?
In his own words, Johnson describes his take on plan PLAN 9 as a serious-minded retelling of the original story, paying homage to the spirit of Wood’s film without resorting to camp or parody.
I don’t know if I’m entirely sold yet, but I admire this guy’s passion and admiration for the new flick. PLAN 9 just scored a few cast members as well, with Brinke Stevens (pictured) in the role originally played by Vampira (i.e., the Vampire Girl), and original PLAN 9 star Conrad Brooks in the role of the lead inspector.
