Platonic: AppleTV+ releases a premiere date and first look of Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne comedy series

Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne played a married couple with a child in the Neighbors movies. The duo are now being reunited in a different kind of relationship in the upcoming Apple Original series, Platonic. The series comes from Nick Stoller, who directed and co-wrote with co-creator Francesca Delbanco. AppleTV have just released some first-look images of the upcoming series featuring our two main leads. Rogen and Byrne are also on board as executive producers of the show.

The official synopsis from AppleTV+ reads,
Platonic follows a platonic pair of former best friends approaching midlife (Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne) who reconnect after a long rift. The duo’s friendship becomes all consuming—and destabilizes their lives in a hilarious way. The ensemble cast also stars Luke Macfarlane, Tre Hale, Carla Gallo, and Andrew Lopez.

Platonic will be a limited series with ten episodes. The show is produced by Sony Pictures Television in association with Nick Stoller’s Global Solutions where he has an overall deal. Joining Rogen and Byrne as executive producers are writer/creators Stoller, Delbanco, and Conor Welch. This series will be the latest collaboration between AppleTV and Rose Byrne after she also starred in the critically praised Apple Original series Physical, which is set to debut its third season later this year. Rogen is also working with AppleTV+ on other projects as he’s set to star in an upcoming, untitled comedy series for Apple TV+ that he will write, direct, and executive produce alongside frequent collaborator Evan Goldberg.

AppleTV+ is adding Platonic to its growing list of acclaimed programming that is exclusive to the streaming service as it competes with Netflix, HBO Max, Hulu, Disney+, and Paramount+. The comedy series joins the likes of shows such as Emmy-award-winning Ted Lasso, Shrinking, Schmigadoon!, The Afterparty, The Big Door Prize, Bad Sisters, Trying, Mythic Quest, and more.

Rogen and Goldberg have also recently dropped a look at their other pet project a few weeks ago with a new interpretation of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles subtitled Mutant Mayhem. That project also shares a connection to the Neighbors series having been penned by the screenwriter, Brendan O’Brien.

Platonic is slated to premiere on Wednesday, May 24, 2023.
