Poe’s Usher updated

Edgar Allan Poe is making another return to the big screen, although in yet another unorthodox way. Not unlike the film version of his classic story TELL-TALE HEART (titled simply TELL TALE), Poe’s THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER will be updated and have a title change, although this one is a real eye-roller.

THE USHERS (ugh) will look at a grown brother and sister who have lived in the same Martha’s Vineyard house for a long time but begin to feel trapped there, and who then bring in a real-estate broker to help them resolve their crisis.

Those familiar with the original tale, which dealt with a man visiting his sick friend Roderick Usher and learning he’s buried his own sister alive, might see the possibilities with THE USHERS plotline, but I fear the worst. This might be a huge understatement, but Poe works best in the imagination. In addition, I certainly wish an adaptation of the story would take place in the 1800s. Bringing it to the modern age might bleed it of all its gothic, eerie glory.

Claire Forlani (pictured below), Dougray Scott and Rufus Sewell will star in the flick, to be directed by Stephen Kay (BOOGEYMAN, GET CARTER) Oh and did I mention it will be shot in 3D? It will be shot in 3D… You know what, f*ck this movie.
