Polley splices Brody

Sarah Polley is kind of a big deal to us Canadians, because she’s one of the better actresses working today and her directorial debut (at the age of 27!!!) was the acclaimed drama AWAY FROM HER, which she also adapted. Now comes news that she’ll be co-starring with Adrien Brody in the sci-fi genetics thriller SPLICE, to be written and directed by Vincenzo Natali (CUBE) who also co-wrote the script.

Polley and Brody will play scientists who “become superstars by splicing different animal DNA to create fantastical new creatures. They ignore the legal and ethical boundaries and introduce human DNA into their experiment,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. I hope the filmmakers take the opportunity to do some creative and ground-breaking effects, rather than just plain old CGI to create these ‘fantastical new creatures.’ The film starts shooting this November in Toronto, which is also Polley’s hometown, and mine, so maybe if I’m in town her and I can grab a couple of pints at the Drake.
