As a fan of animation, I’m excited to see PONYO (the Disneyfied release of Hayao Miyazaki’s GAKE NO UE NO PONYO) but I don’t think this trailer is doing the film any favors. There’s the overly dramatic voiceover and the lack of any coherent plot thread. If you had no idea what this movie was about, would this trailer help you at all? I guess they’re just relying on cartoon nerds like me who just want to see a Miyazaki movie in theaters. You can check it out for yourself below or watch it in HD at Apple’s trailer page. PONYO opens in limited release on August 14.
