If true, this is excellent news indeed. Bloody Disgusting is reporting that Natalie Portman is CONFIRMED to star in David Gordon Green’s remake of the horror classic SUSPIRIA! Now I’m a huge fan of the original – as I’m sure many of you are – but I have NO problem with this remake if it’s getting a serious treatment. This isn’t Brittany Snow and Nelson McCormick doing PROM NIGHT folks; this is a classy, talented actress and a highly respected director tackling operatic horror material. I’m psyched, to say the least.
We all know Portman is capable of good work (as long as she’s not being directed by George Lucas). As for Green, well, the guy is certainly an eclectic director. From arthouse fare like GEORGE WASHINGTON and UNDERTOW to PINEAPPLE EXPRESS and now to SUSPIRIA. Can’t say he’s afraid to try new things… Back in March he told MTV: “I would love to get every geek that loves torture porn and every old lady in line to see ‘Phantom of the Opera’ to come and have this insane experience.” Sounds like the right man for the job to me!
A few more similarly exciting cast updates and an awesome cinematographer on board, and this jumps to the top of my Most Anticipated list. How about you?
