Natalie Portman is following in the footsteps of my Canadian flower Sarah Polley as young, talented, beautiful and short actress who is making the jump to director. Portman has started a new production company called Handsomecharlie, whose first production will be entitled A TALE OF LOVE AND DARKNESS, which Portman herself will direct.
The story is an adaptation of the bestselling memoir by Amos Oz about a young man growing up in the turbulence of mid-century Jerusalem, and his experiences during the birth of Israel. Portman has been heavily active in political causes, so this subject matter comes as no surprise. There’s no word yet on whether she’ll take a role in the film, and she can next be seen in MR. MAGORIUM’S WONDER EMPORIUM.
