Although he doesn’t necessarily match the requirements stated in the “casting call” posted the other day, Michael Bailey Smith certainly wouldn’t be a bad Jason Voorhees. Considering the carnage this massive dude wrought in THE HILLS HAVE EYES as “Pluto” (pictured), he seems like he wouldn’t have much of a problem wielding an axe and terrorizing teenagers.
Fango snagged a few words from the man who might be Jason: “I’ve heard all the rumors, and I have had talks with certain people in certain positions at Platinum Dunes… FRIDAY THE 13TH starts shooting in a month or so, so I guess we’ll just have to see what happens. But I can tell you that their interest in me is pretty strong. It all boils down to the way the producers ultimately want to go with Jason.”
“There would be more of the ferociousness in the character, kind of like the way I played Pluto in THE HILLS HAVE EYES. My Jason would be a nonstop, relentless killer. I would love to bring that kind of energy and physicality to the role. It would be great to put on the mask and to be able to take on such an iconic character.”
Jared Padalecki was just cast as the male lead, and I’m guessing we can expect a slew of further announcements to hit in the next couple weeks (Scout Taylor Compton is rumored to be in play). I’ll tell ya, I wouldn’t mind another HILLS HAVE EYES alum’s involvement…
