I hope y’all ain’t reading on a full stomach!
In the last couple of weeks, it seems the news cycle has been dictating our love of Asian horror films. Whether it’s Joon ho Bong’s MOTHER, or Pakpoom Wongchinda’s WHO ARE YOU…international horror is not only alive and well, here at AITH we’re more than proud to cast some coverage on that corner of the foreign cinema market.
As such, we’ve just landed a scorcher of a Thai film entitled MEAT GRINDER. Yup, you read it right: MEAT GRINDER! And you needn’t look any further than that title and the corresponding poster to the right to grasp just how f*cked up this bad boy looks to get. Of course, the 3 minute trailer below ought to whet (or perhaps wreck) your appetite! Sure the video image is a bit roiled, but hey, at least we got some English subs.
Directed by Tiwa Moeithaisong, MEAT GRINDER tells the story of Buss, a widow who makes a living as a meat noodle seller. One day she finds Auttapon, a young university student looking for his friend who was shot in front of Buss’ stall. Later Auttapon approaches Buss, he always takes good care of her as she opens her painful heart to him in an intimate relationship. Meanwhile, Auttapon never knows that his missing friend was the finest raw materials in the process of his lover’s noodles recipe!
A human soup? F*ck me!
Rockin’ a paltry budget of somewhere between $1-3 million, MEAT GRINDER is written by Samonggu, with stars Rattanabanlang Tosawat and Mai Charoenpura attached.
No telling when the flick will see the light of day, but when we have something we’ll be sure to lance you with it!
