One of my favorite things about writing for this humble rag of ours is discovering lesser known horror gems from around the globe. You see, today I’m tossing some love at a South Korean suicide horror flick called POSSESSED (BOOL-SIN-JI-OK), including an English subtitled trailer and native one-sheet for the film. C’mon, you already know where to find that shite!
Directed by feature first timer Yong-Joo Lee, from a script by Je-yong Lee (AN AFFAIR, THE SCANDAL), POSSESSED commences:
When 13-year-old So-Jin disappears, her elder sister Hee-Jin returns to the apartment of their religious-maniac mother. Tae-Hwan, a cop, who reluctantly has to take the case seriously is confronted with more and more suicides that are difficult to explain rationally. And why does the skeptical Hee-Jin, who keeps having gruesome encounters with suicides, have to keep coughing?
Rockin’ shades of MOTHER and SUICIDE CLUB, ay? Definitely a combo I can vibe on!
Shim Eun-kyung, Young-nam Jang, Bo-Yeon Kim, Chang-jik Lee, Hie-kyung Moon, Sang-mi Nam, Ji-eun Oh and Seung-yong Ryoo all star in the film.
POSSESSED screened at last year’s American Film Market, so a DVD release (at the very least) should be coming our way soon enough.
