Having just given you a peek at UNEARTHED, I present cool info from another horror film that’s getting a lot of buzz from the Tribeca Film Festival: THE POUGHKEEPSIE TAPES. The boys at Bloody Disgusting scored an interview with the director, John Dowdle, who talks about the film’s faux-documentary approach (it concerns the “home videos” of a twisted serial killer), his inspirations, and what people can expect to feel when watching the exploits of the “Water Street Butcher.”
Perhaps the best quotes pertain to Dowdle’s hope that you’ll be permanently damaged after watching his whimsical tale:
“A lot of people leave this movie very upset. Some people love it and some hate it, but nobody leaves this film feeling unaffected.”
“We want them to expect to be scared. They should also expect to feel icky inside after seeing this. They may have to go home and take a long hot shower after the movie. They should expect to see things they’ll never forget. Even if they try.”
I’m always pleased when a filmmaker has my best interests in mind (and my “best interests” in this case involve waking up screaming and crying in the middle of the night… more than usual, that is). Rumor has it that Dowdle’s next movie will be a live-action CARE BEARS film. That’s a rumor I’m starting , but only because I have a very strong feeling it’ll happen.
