Johnson, the writer/director of the upcoming GHOST RIDER movie spoke with
Fangoria about the writing of PREACHER, the coolest comic known to man which has
just landed a deal with HBO to become a television series.
Johnson said :“I’ve always wanted to do PREACHER, man,…I went into HBO and
said simply, ‘There’s the comic. There’s 75 issues or so, [that’s including]
SAINT OF KILLERS. Every issue is an hour so it’s a six-year show.’ And HBO, God
bless ’em, went, ‘Cool!’ ”
Johnson also mentioned that as terribly violent as PREACHER is, HBO is still
holding strong and letting the show pan out. He also mentions the idea of having
guest directors like Kevin Smith and Robert Rodriguez direct episodes. For now
Howard Deutch is slated to direct the first episode and from there who knows.
For those unfamiliar with PREACHER, it’s about an all American man- who just
happens to posses the "Word of God". He travels all over the country looking for
God, literally looking for him, while be accompanied by his wild girlfriend and
vampire companion. He’s also being hunted by the Catholic church and a legendary
cowboy known as The Saint of All Killers, a man who can’t be killed and whose
guns are of a holy nature.
