Veteran producer John Davis (the PREDATOR films) and Lola Effects, a visual effects company founded by SKYLINE directors Greg and Colin Strause, are teaming up to bring the futuristic novel UGLIES to the big screen.
Sounding quite reminiscent of the “Number 12 Looks Just Like You” episode of “The Twilight Zone”, UGLIES is set in an Orwellian future in which teens undergo surgery on their 16th birthdays to become supermodel “pretty.” It’s centered on Tally Youngblood, an “ugly” teen forced by authorities to forgo her transformation until she infiltrates The Smoke, a community of rebels who choose to retain their appearance and live outside of normal society.
It’s gonna be awkward casting all those “ugly” people, eh?
The screenplay for UGLIES is being written by ALL THE BOYS LOVE MANDY LANE scribe Jacob Forman. Of course, there’s a trilogy of UGLIES books, so expect this to (maybe) become the next HUNGER GAMES.
