Prisoners director Denis Villeneuve to helm Blade Runner sequel

Here's some intriguing and exciting news to start your weekend off!

We've known for a while now that we would be getting a sequel to Ridley Scott's classic BLADE RUNNER, and now Variety is reporting that ENEMY and PRISONERS helmer Denis Villeneuve is in talks to direct the BLADE RUNNER sequel for Alcon Entertainment and 20th Century Fox with the film scheduled to start principle photography in the summer of 2016.

Hampton Fancher (co-writer of the original) and Michael Green have written the original screenplay, based on an idea by Fancher and Ridley Scott. The story is said to takes place several decades after the conclusion of the 1982 original. Ford recently said the second installment’s script was the “best thing he’s ever read.” He will reprise his role as Rick Deckard in the film, which originally took place in a dystopian 2019 Los Angeles.

Ridley Scott will produce the sci-fi thriller alongside Alcon’s Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson.

As this one gets off the ground, Scott is preparing PROMETHEUS 2, and is producing the newly announced ALIEN sequel with Neill Blomkamp.

I'm stoked for a BLADE RUNNER sequel, and having Ford reprising his role makes this even more exciting. With Villeneuve at the helm I'm expecting great things so fingers are crossed that this one delivers!
