Proctor A Gamble

Now here’s a novel thought for ya. A group of University of Oregon students had a film club for viewing and critiquing films. But then these mofos broke out of the typical college box, and I gotta say I love ’em for it. They decided that they could take the focus of their energies and apply them to film production. And so was born PROCTOR, a feature-length horror flick shot for $2000 that gets its premiere this weekend at the Bijou Arts Cinemas.

The synopsis is as follows: At a party, Ian tells his friends the tale of a couple in the old Oregon Territory who go on a murderous rampage after their children die. Their spirits are banished into a tenuous limbo. Dave (Keith Bryan), out to call Ian’s bluff, visits the alleged site. There, he finds a statue and a ceramic seal. When the seal is accidentally broken, the husband’s spirit is released. The five friends have to find a way to banish the evil spirit as all around them people are bumped off one by one.

Granted, it’s nothing we haven’t seen before, but a murderous spirit offing the populace is usually a recipe for a good time. Besides, they only had $2000, so they made a good choice going with an old standard.

Of course, the odds are the flick isn’t particularly good, and even if it is, it’ll most likely die the unknown death of so many independent projects. But y’know what? These folks got off their ass and made a movie. And they are getting a theatrical screening. So I raise my glass and wish ’em luck.

And if you happen to be around U of O this weekend, well hell, check the damn thing out. It’ll only cost you $4, and it’s good genre karma.

BTW, why the pic of Taylor Hayes you wonder? Well, I’m guessing the T&A will be low or non-existent for a budget like this, so I’m throwing some out there for ya’ll. Besides, I just watched SAMHAIN recently, and Taylor is a trooper. She deserves some props!
