Producer Antony I Ginnane planning remakes of Thirst and The Survivor

While remakes are a dime-a-dozen nowadays (and oftentimes to the chagrin of fans of the original pictures) there are still some films that could benefit from the remake treatment. Case in point: Producer Antony I. Ginnane is out to remake both the 1979 vampire/sci-fi feature THIRST and the supernatural-infused thriller THE SURVIVOR. While neither film is heralded as classics of the genre, both are interesting enough films with intriguing storylines that could see a vast improvement with a remake.

Screen Daily is reporting that Ginnane, who also shepherded the original 1978 Aussie classic PATRICK and its recent remake PATRICK: EVIL AWAKENS, is working towards getting the remakes of THIRST and THE SURVIVOR going through his production company FG Films.

THIRST is a 1979 Australian film directed by Rod Hardy. It starred Australian actors Chantal Contouri and Max Phipps and British actor David Hemmings. It has been described as a blend of vampire and science fiction genres, influenced by the 1973 film SOYLENT GREEN as well as drawing on the vampire folklore of Elizabeth Báthory – one of several vampire films in the 1970s to do so.

The descendant of Elizabeth Bathory is abducted by a cult of self-proclaimed supermen who achieve this state of superiority by drinking from the "blood cows" (read: people) kept at the "dairy farm", and they try to get her to join them.

THE SURVIVOR is a 1981 film starring Robert Powell and Jenny Agutter, based on a novel of the same name by James Herbert, and concerned…

A plane crashes just after takeoff and the only survivor, the pilot walks out of the wreckage. He doesn't remember the explosion or the crash, but 300 passengers & crew are dead. As the investigation goes on people are wanting answers.

No writers or directors have been attached to either of these projects at this time, but we'll keep you updated.
