Producers spill more details on the Creature from the Black Lagoon remake

One project that has been floating around for well over a year is the proposed remake of THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON. Oh I’m sorry… I mean re-boot. Or is it re-imaginging? Who really cares at this point? Fact is this thing has been tossing around Hollywood for way too long now… and unfortuantely it doesn’t look like things are going to start rolling on the project anytime soon.

You see the guys over at Bloody-Disgusting recently had a chance to chat it up with producer Marc Abraham about his upcoming film THE THING but the topic quickly changed to THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON. So what did the producer have to say regarding the project? Check it:

“We’ve gone through a bunch of different incarnations of scripts, and none that me and my partner were satisfied with. Gary Ross is involved with us as a producer [along with] his wife, Allison [Thomas]. None of us have been satisfied. I think we have a really cool take on the movie now – [a] much hipper, [more] interesting version of it, and we’re looking for a new writer who’s after that. And, in fact, I just had breakfast and I was writing down my notes about it, about how I think it should go. I think we have a really cool take on it. Still set in South America, really a more ‘not-a-guy-in-a-rubber-suit’…[it’s a] much more psychological transformation, more literary transformation. I think a really interesting idea.”

Ouch. That doesn’t sound too promising, now does it? My guess… this thing will remain in development hell for at least another year. Describing the film as an origins story of how the transformation of the Creature actually happened, Abraham also seemed skeptical on the franchise potential of the project.

I don’t know folks… I hope you weren’t looking forward to THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON because it seems like this one is a ways away. Then again this is Hollywood so I wouldn’t be surprised if the thing is rushed into production next week. What do you guys think? You okay with not seeing a CREATURE reboot for a while or were you excited for this one? Hit us with your thoughts on the whole thing below and keep it here for more on the project as we hear it!
