In March, Dylan O'Brien was injured while shooting MAZE RUNNER: THE DEATH CURE after he was apparently pulled off of a moving vehicle unexpectedly and hit by another vehicle. Production on the film was shut down while they waited for O'Brien to recover from his injuries, which included "concussion, facial fracture and lacerations." However, it seems that the actors injuries are more serious than was previously thought as THR is reporting that Fox has now shut down production on MAZE RUNNER: THE DEATH CURE for the foreseeable future.
At the time, Fox believed that the shutdown would only last a few weeks and had scheduled production to begin once more on May 9th, but THR's sources say that the cast and crew have now been sent home and that a new start date will "depend on O'Brien's recovery and the ability to reassemble the large cast and crew." O'Brien's publicist said that "his injuries are very serious and he needs more time to recover," and a statement from Fox added that "the resumption of principal photography on Maze Runner: The Death Cure has been further delayed to allow Dylan O’Brien more time to fully recover from his injuries. We wish Dylan a speedy recovery and look forward to restarting production as soon as possible."
MAZE RUNNER: THE DEATH CURE was set for a February 17, 2017 release, but I can't imagine that they'll be sticking to that date now. It's very sad to hear that his injuries are more severe than we thought, as recovering from those types of injuries is definitely no picnic, but I'm sure we all wish Dylan O'Brien a full and speedy recovery.
