Puss in Boots 2 cast adds Salma Hayek, Florence Pugh, Harvey Guillén, and Olivia Colman

Call your catnip dealer and prepare to get your swoon on because Puss in Boots is back on the prowl! Reprising her role as Kitty Softpaws for the long-awaited sequel is Salma Hayek, with Antonio Banderas playing the part of Puss in Boots. The long-delayed feline frenzy has also added some new talent to the animated sequel with Florence Pugh (Midsommar, Black Widow), Harvey Guillén (What We Do in the Shadows), Olivia Colman (The Favourite), John Mulaney (Big Mouth), Da ‘Vine Joy Randolph (The Lost City), Anthony Mendez (Jane the Virgin), and Samson Kayo (Our Flag Means Death) joining the cast.

Guillén is set to play Perro, Kitty and Puss’ canine associate, in the sequel. Titled Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, the animated film follows the daring outlaw Puss in Boots as he discovers that his passion for peril and disregard for safety have taken their toll. Puss in Boots was released in 2011 as a spinoff to the mega-popular Shrek film series. Conversations about a sequel, titled Puss in Boots: Nine Lives & 40 Thieves, began in 2014. Unfortunately, due to major overhauls at Dreamworks, the film was removed from the calendar. Now that the dust has settled, and Banderas is on board, Puss in Boots 2 will let the fur fly on September 23, 2022.

Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado serve as director and co-director of The Last Wish, respectively; Mark Swift will produce. All three are part of The Croods: A New Age creative team.

In addition to announcing the film’s newest cast members, Deadline also revealed an image from the upcoming film:

The first trailer for Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is scheduled to arrive online tomorrow, March 15. Does Puss still have what it takes to lead a feature film? How did Perro come to be a part of the ensemble? Will Shrek, Donkey, or Fiona have a cameo in the new film? I have so many questions. Be sure to check back tomorrow when the trailer for Puss in Boots 2 goes live.
