R.I.P.: Joey Morgan of Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse has passed away at 28

This week is off to a sad start, as not only did we have to share the news that prolific character actor Art LaFleur has died, but it has also been confirmed that actor Joey Morgan has passed away at the shockingly young age of 28. Morgan was really just getting his acting career started, having earned 11 credits since 2015.

Morgan’s screen debut was in the really fun horror comedy Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, and since then he appeared in the films Compadres, Flower, Camp Manna, Sierra Burgess Is a Loser, and Max Reload and the Nether Blasters, as well as episodes of the TV shows Chicago Med and Angie Tribeca. He was also in the TV movie DeTour, the short Margaret and the Moon, and the Critters franchise entry Critters: A New Binge, which was released in eight short parts that add up to a total running time of around 70 minutes when combined.

Morgan also earned an associate producer credit on a short titled 10 Hours, and was cinematographer on the 2021 shorts Montgomery Drive and Joyride.

A representative for Morgan gave the following statement to The Hollywood Reporter:

Joey Morgan passed away early Sunday morning.  It was a shock and devastated all of us who loved him. He will be dearly missed. We hope everyone understands how painful this is for his loved ones and can respect boundaries and allow them to grieve in private.

The cause of death has not been made public.

Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse director Christopher Landon wrote on Twitter,

Joey Morgan came into my life nearly 9 years ago when I made Scouts. He was quiet, funny, intelligent and thoughtful. And when the cameras rolled he was magnetic. He passed today and the news is heartbreaking. I am honored to have known him.

Morgan’s Flowers co-star Zoey Deutch took to Instagram to say:

rest in peace joey. a deeply kind, talented, special person. we love you

When Morgan’s Scouts co-star Patrick Schwarzenegger saw Deutch’s post, he responded,

What?!? No. Such a hilarious bright star when I worked with him. Wow. This is awful.

It is devastating to hear that Morgan has passed away at such a young age. We send our heartfelt condolences out to his family, friends, and fans.
