Remember ‘The Shadow’? You know, the 1930’s radioplay that had a dude, Lamont Cranston, cloaked in hat and cape who fought crime with the ability to cloud men’s minds? The pulp comics of the 40’s? The blah 1994 movie based on the radioplay starring Alec Baldwin and directed by Russell Mulcahy? The same dude who’s directing RESIDENT EVIL: EXTINCTION?
Enough questions. Good ol’ Sam Raimi wanted to direct the ’94 adaptation of the film, but was denied from doing so (something about him and Bruce Campbell in the 80’s). Anyways, Raimi decided instead to direct his own homage of THE SHADOW in a little film called DARKMAN starring Liam Neeson, which ended up doing better than THE SHADOW (go figure). Well according to the Hollywood Reporter, Raimi has finally secured the rights to do the film he always wanted to do, thanks in part to Columbia Pictures.
The film will be produced by Raimi’s production company, Buckaroo Entertainment, and Siavash Farahani will write the screenplay. Columbia has been itching for a while now for Raimi to get into another comic book action hero, especially with Raimi’s committment to the SPIDER-MAN franchise in doubt after the third film. Hopefully with this go-round, Raimi will know what lurks in the hearts of men.
