Ramayana interview: Yash Breaks Down the Epic + Namit Malhotra on Bringing It to the World

We caught up with superstar Yash and producer Namit Malhotra to talk about one of the most ambitious films ever made, Ramayana!

In this exclusive interview, Yash opens up about stepping into a legendary role in Ramayana, a project that aims to bring one of India’s most popular mythological stories to the big screen on a mind-blowing scale. Known globally for his work in K.G.F: Chapter 1 and its sequel, Yash discusses the weight of portraying such an iconic character and the responsibility that comes with it. He also talks about his action training for the upcoming film Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown Ups.

Meanwhile, Namit Malhotra, CEO of the VFX company DNEG, breaks down the vision behind Ramayana. He explains how the film is being designed not just as a regional hit, but as a global cinematic event with cutting-edge visual effects.

Based on the ancient Indian epic Ramayana, the film follows Prince Rama as he embarks on a journey of exile, battles the demon king Ravana, and seeks to rescue his wife Sita. The official description reads, Rama is the greatest of all time because he lived a life where the choices he made were always in the benefit of the greater good, duty over desire, and sacrifice over self. His legacy continues to enhance and empower humanity over time and bring the belief in the goodness of the human spirit to resolve all conflict and bring peace to the world.

Ramayana is brought to you from producer Namit Malhotra, acclaimed actor Ranbir Kapoor and award-winning director Nitesh Tiwari. The cast includes Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Yash as Ravana, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Ravie Dubey as Lakshman and Sunny Deol as Hanuman. Yash also co-produces on the film. The script was penned by Shridhar Raghavan. The music was done by Hans Zimmer & A.R. Rahman, with lyrics by Kumar Vishwas. The stunning visual effects for the film come from the 8-time Academy Award-winning studio DNEG.

From its epic scope to its cultural significance, Ramayana is shaping up to be a landmark production, one that could redefine what Indian cinema can achieve on the world stage.
