Ratner does Conan

After weeks of speculation, the decision to has been made: Brett Ratner will be directing the upcoming CONAN movie for Nu Image / Millennium Films and Lionsgate. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ratner was debating between directing CONAN or the fourth installment of the BEVERLY HILLS COP movies, and decided to go with CONAN. Damn him!

I guess I don’t see the appeal to Ratner. He directs the so-so RUSH HOUR movies, and the he was the man behind the worse of the of X-MEN series, and yet projects seem to be beating down his door. And he has answered… CONAN will be his next. Blah.

Written by Joshua Oppenheimer and Thomas Dean Donnelly, the new film will be based on the original work by Robert E. Howard, and is looking to be an R rated origins film, to set up a series of CONAN movies. Yes folks, this is to be a new franchise. Like CONAN THE BARBARIAN and CONAN THE DESTROYER… and look how well that ended.

Well, with a budget of $85M, producers are sure hoping people will see it… and now, wth Ratner on board, I’m sure people will. For some reason, while his movies suck nuts, people love paying money to see them. Weird. Look for CONAN in theaters 2010, and keep it here for more updates as to who will be playing the new Conan.
