A little over 2 weeks ago we spiked you all with a tidbit that Hugh Jackman is set to play the lead in DreamWorks’ sci-fi action outing REAL STEEL, their first flick post-refinancing. And now we know Touchstone Pictures has locked a November 18, 2011 theatrical release date for the flick (so says THR).
Based on the Richard Matheson short story, directed by Shawn Levy (NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM) – REAL STEEL will star Hugh Jackman as a former boxer grabbing one last chance at stardom in the ring by teaming with his long-lost son to train a robot for the Real Steel World Championship.
Leslie Bohem (A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET: THE DREAM CHILD) and John Gatins (HARD BALL, COACH CARTER) have teamed to pen the screenplay, with Dan Gilroy and Jeremy Leven landing writing credit as well.
Save for India, Disney looks to handle all international theatrical distribution of the flick (as they do all flicks they release domestically).
