Reaper preview

The coupling of writer/director Kevin Smith and horror sounds like a dream come true, so when we heard a while back that he was developing a horror show for the new CW network, the excite-o-meter was cracking up high on the Richter scale. Today the trailer and sneak peak of REAPER, with it’s first episode directed by Smith, is now online, and I hate to say it… but it looks like something we’ve seen a few times before.

Not that that’s necessarily a bad thing, but when you click HERE to check out the video footage and extended preview, I think you’ll see what I mean. I kept thinking this was the comedic version of GHOST RIDER, as the plot lines spoke very similarly: on his 21st birthday, Sam discovers that his parents sold his soul to the devil and now he has to act as a bounty hunter to bring escaped souls back to hell.

Sure, there’s more comedic hijinks thrown in for good measure, and yes, it looks entertaining enough, but damnit… it just doesn’t feel original enough for me. Ah well. Have a blast with the new preview HERE, and get ready for REAPER on the new CW, Tuesdays at 9pm this fall.
