It was recently announced that Morgan Spector has been cast as the famous symbologist and cryptologist character Robert Langdon (who had been portrayed earlier by Tom Hanks) in the upcoming Dan Brown series The Secret of Secrets for Netflix. Netflix has now announced that Spector’s real wife, Rebecca Hall, has officially been cast in the show as Katherine Solomon — Langdon’s girlfriend, a scientist who goes missing. Hall’s resume includes the upcoming fourth installment of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s Monster anthology series for Netflix, as well as The Beauty and The Listeners.
In Dan Brown’s thrilling novel, symbologist Robert Langdon races against ancient forces and time to rescue a missing scientist and her groundbreaking manuscript whose discoveries have the power to forever change humanity’s understanding of the mind. The series adaptation will blend futuristic science with mystical lore, delivering on the heart-pounding suspense and international intrigue that has made the Langdon stories a global phenomenon.
Carlton Cuse and Dan Brown are the co-creators, writers and executive producers of The Secret of Secrets, with Cuse serving as showrunner. Production is slated to kick off this fall in Prague. Other executive producers on the project include Emma Forman for Genre Arts and Zoe Robyn.
When The Da Vinci Code was published in 2003, it became an absolute global phenomenon. Even though it was technically the second novel in the series after Angels & Demons, it felt like you couldn’t go anywhere without seeing multiple people reading it.
Naturally, Hollywood came calling. Tom Hanks famously brought the character to life in the massive film adaptation of The Da Vinci Code, later returning for Angels & Demons and Inferno. While critics haven’t always been kind to the film trilogy, I do enjoy it on a guilty pleasure level. They remain an incredibly fun watch, largely thanks to Hanks’ delightfully bewildered energy as he bounces from one cryptic clue to the next.
This Netflix project marks the second major attempt to bring Brown’s universe to the small screen. A television series based on The Lost Symbol was adapted by Peacock in 2021, but it only ran for a single season. Perhaps The Secret of Secrets will shape up to be the franchise reset fans have been waiting for.
