Rec the remake

Remember when we told you about that sweet looking Spanish flick [REC]? Well, if you don’t, click HERE to educate yourself and check out the f*cking sweet ass trailer to this mysterious zombie flick. Looks awesome, no? Screen Gems sure as hell thought so, as it’s looking like they’ve picked up the muthaf*ckin’ remake rights to [REC] this morning, according to Variety!

That’s right, the remake train has gone so far into the ridiculous that’s it not even funny with this move. The guys behind THE POUGHKEEPSIE TAPES (John Erick Dowdle and Drew Dowdle) will also be bringing this beast to the big screen, tackling both writing and directing gigs. Screen Gems president Clint Culpepper had this to say about why he picked up [REC] to remake (even though the original has yet to be distributed): Horror may be waning, but this is such a unique concept that I’m certain it will cut through all the blood and glut of recent horror in the marketplace.

While I have no doubt the original film, directed by Jaume Balaguero and Paco Plaza is awesome, why the hell remake it? Why not pick it up for distribution? Seems like you could make a helluva lot more money, seeing as it’s already made! Bugh…

The remake, as the original, is set in a downtown Los Angeles apartment building that is quarantined after a mysterious deadly and highly contagious strain of rabies breaks out. A reporter and her cameraman are among those trapped inside.

Out of all the recent onslaught of remakes, I think this pisses me off the most… and I haven’t even seen the original! Stick around for more on this p.o.s. remake as we hear it. And more importantly, stick around to find out when the original [REC] will be distributed.
