I was fortunate enough to check out I SAW THE DEVIL a couple of weeks ago, and let me tell you, feel free to believe the hype. The movie is brutal, exciting, suspenseful, disturbing and any other adjective along those lines you want to throw in there. (It’s not perfect; at two hours and twenty minutes, it’s a little too long.) You get the idea: this is one all genre fans should experience, and I’m sure it will end up on a lot of Best Of lists at the conclusion of the year.
The Kim Jee-woon film is getting ready to be unleashed in North America beginning in NY and LA on MARCH 4th (for a full list of the cities on the roll-out, click HERE), and in anticipation of that there’s a new red-band trailer awaiting your eyeballs. It’s got a couple of SPOILERS in there – not in terms of the story really, but in terms of showing a couple of the awesome moments contained in the movie that might be better left as surprises. It’s a solid preview though, and gives you a pretty good idea of what’s in store…
The synopsis, in cast you’re unfamiliar: Oldboy’s CHOI Min-sik plays Kyung-chul, a dangerous psychopath who kills for pleasure. The embodiment of pure evil, he has committed horrifying and senselessly cruel serial murders on defenseless victims, successfully eluding capture by the police.
On a freezing, snowy night, his latest victim is the beautiful Ju-yeon, daughter of a retired police chief and pregnant fiancée of elite special agent Dae-hoon (The Good, The Bad, The Weird’s LEE Byung-hyun). Obsessed with revenge, Dae-hoon decides to track down the murderer, even if doing so means becoming a monster himself. And when he finds Kyung-chul, turning him in to the authorities is the last thing on his mind.
