Red Dead Redemption designer to direct futuristic thriller Wake Cycle

Christian Cantamessa is a name I don’t recognize, but hardcore gamers might know who the man is: The guy was the lead designer and co-writer on the uber-popular shooter “Red Dead Redemption”; he also has his fingerprints on “Grand Theft Auto”, “Manhunt” and “Manhunt 2”. Now Cantamessa is making the lead to the movies in a big way with a sci-fi project called WAKE CYCLE, which he’ll direct and co-script.

WAKE CYCLE takes place in an underground hyperbaric facility, where the world’s greatest scientists are placed after a nuclear fallout. “Wake Cycle” refers to the available air every six months that allows two custodial workers to maintain the facility — but when one of their sleep tanks is damaged, they engage in a life-and-death struggle.

Cantamessa has a background primarily in video games, but also has at least three short films under his belt. (Including “How I Survived the Zombie Apocalypse”.)

WAKE CYCLE is being produced in part by Frank Mancuso Jr., who of course helped shepherd the first five FRIDAY THE 13th films. His company Boss Media will fund and oversee the film, which is currently casting.
