Red director Robert Schwentke may take a dip with Shadow Divers

JoBloJoBlo

While we wait for him to unleash the deadly elders of RED, director Robert Schwentke is thinking about taking a cue from James Cameron and spending an inordinate amount of time in the ocean.

Schwentke may plunge into the depths for SHADOW DIVERS, an adaptation of the bestselling true subaquatic adventure tale about a pair of divers who discovered a sunken WWII German U-Boat off the coast of New Jersey. The story focuses on the men’s tenacious, lengthy quest to solve the mystery of the shipwreck’s history, which ultimately takes a toll on their lives and relationships. Those Nazis — always the villains!

The project has been treading water for years, with Ridley Scott originally interested in directing.

Schwentke (who also directed FLIGHTPLAN and THE TIME TRAVELER’S WIFE) is also reportedly considering a remake/adaptation of the thriller THE OSTERMAN WEEKEND, a Robert Ludlum book that previously became a Sam Peckinpah movie with Rutger Hauer, John Hurt, Dennis Hopper and Craig T. Nelson.
