Red Eye Look

Man I am happy to have some good news from the world of Wes Craven. I have loved the dude’s work forever, and think that despite a weak ending, NEW NIGHTMARE continues to be one of the best genre works I’ve ever seen. But it seems like lately he’s been getting stuck around a lot of folks who want to put him over the proverbial barrel. Between the fiasco that CURSED turned into, and the ridiculous lack of interest the studio is evidencing in his opinion about the making of FEAST on Project Greenlight, I’m amazed he hasn’t taken some of his genre skills and put them to use in real life.

Now, however, we get word from the folks over at Dark Worlds that his latest flick RED EYE kicks some serious ass! They caught a test screening and the review is overwhelmingly positive. Here’s a taste:

Although the movie is as much a character study as a thriller ([Rachel] McAdams’s Lisa is a beautifully written and acted heroine with more levels than one might expect), it contains a few of the scariest moments in Craven’s career. In fact, the most exhilarating thing about the picture for this viewer was its reminder of just how scary and visceral movies can be. I’ve seen so many horror and suspense films that it takes a lot to frighten me, but there are a couple of moments in REDEYE that made me involuntarily jump in my seat. It’s the best kind of Hollywood entertainment, too, in that the action is all driven by character. It’s the kind of thrill ride you don’t have to feel guilty about enjoying, because it’s smart and it’s original.

What can I say? That’s got me excited enough to drop the $2.50 to catch a BJ from the toothless 60-year old hooker on my street! In other words, we’ll keep you updated as we get more news, ’cause I cannot wait to see this bia-tch!
