Ah, I’m always pleased when I come across a fresh entry in my beloved slasher genre that also boasts a fun-sounding setup. Plus, extra credit is earned when said entry also features themes reminiscent of 80’s horror. Hence I’m pleased as hell to announce the arrival of RED HOOK, which adequately follows all of the aforementioned criteria and then some! Grab yourself a look at the plot:
Jenny is a new student at a New York City university who’s still haunted by having witnessed her older sister’s brutal slaying 10 years before. She’s convinced to join a group of her dorm-mates in a citywide scavenger hunt that leads them across the city—but as they hunt for clues, someone begins hunting them with murderous intent.
That what’s-not-to-love synopsis is backed up even further by the flick’s alarmingly entertaining trailer, which you can check out below. You’ll really be able to see that “awesome 80’s” vibe.
RED HOOK was directed by Elizabeth Lucas (her feature debut) from a script by Sammy Buck. It stars Christina Brucato, Terrence Mann (CRITTERS), Tate Ellington, Alex Bightman, Bryan Fenkart, Karla Mosley and Debargo Sanyal. The release date is some time in 2008.
