Red Riding Hardwicke?

Remember when I told you how Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way banner was working on an updated telling of LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD? It was back at the beginning of the month. Well at that time the only information we had was that ORPHAN screenwriter David Leslie Johnson was penning the script.

Well according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Risky Business Blog we may have our director! The Blog reports that TWILIGHT director Catherine Hardwicke is in final negotiations to direct THE GIRL WITH THE RED RIDING HOOD… which I guess is the going title for the film. I’d actually dig the title a lot if they dropped the RIDING… but I suppose it’s subject to change. Apparently the Hardwicke deal is ‘basically in place’ so we should be hearing confirmation soon. As Risky Biz points out… this is sure to bring up comparisons to Hardwicke’s work on the werewolf-ladened TWILIGHT SAGA… though her film had no wolves in it at all.

Johnson’s take on the classic tale of a wolf who disguises himself to fool a girl delivering food to her sick grandmother in the forest will have a heavily Gothic twist on it. Nice. THE GIRL WITH THE RED RIDING HOOD is only in the development stages right now but we’ll be sure to keep you updated on every step it takes towards production.
