Reeves talks Right One

Some of the more disappointing news of late would be the fact that CLOVERFIELD director Matt Reeves has been tapped to direct the US remake of LET THE RIGHT ONE IN. Everyone, their mothers, and their third cousin twice removed have been spreading the good word on the Sweidsh film since it was released. The flick has been dubbed one of the best of the year by various outlets. So why remake it?

Good question. Firstly… before I get into this article.. let me just mention how I find it gutwrenchingly disturbing that MTV compared LET THE RIGHT ONE IN to TWILIGHT. Literally brought tears to my eyes… But anyway, MTV recently caught up with Reeves to talk a bit about this obviously unnecessary remake. He touched upon various elements of the remake, but here’s what he said about adapting it for an American audience:

“The movie and the book are incredibly Swedish yet there’s something so universal about the tale of this kid and something that in the context of an American story could be completely different while being very consistent with the original story. There’s something about it that can be an American mythic tale.”

That just doesn’t sit well… at least we have the original to look forward to here in the US. To read the rest of the interview, head right over here. The original centers on Oscar, an overlooked and bullied boy. He finds love and revenge through Eli, a beautiful but peculiar girl who turns out to be a vampire.
