Regina Hall has lined up her next project and it will see the actress producing and starring in the picture. It has been announced that Hall will star in and produce a sequel to Midnight Run and original star, Robert De Niro, is on board as a producer as well.

The original Midnight Run was released in 1988 and starred De Niro as a bounty hunter who is tasked with tracking down a former mob accountant, played by the late Charles Grodin. The film sees the duo traveling cross-country trying to evade the FBI and the mob. Story details about the sequel are being kept under wraps, but Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Aeysha Carr is attached to pen the script, which is set up at Universal Pictures, per “The Hollywood Reporter.”

The studio has been trying to make a sequel or remake to Midnight Run since the 1990s. In the early 2010s, Timothy Dowling was working on a script with the idea of having De Niro’s character paired with a younger foil which, of course, would allow hilarity to ensue. This version of the movie never came to be.

Regina Hall was most recently seen in the Hulu limited series Nine Perfect Strangers and she is currently in production on the comedy Honk for Jesus, Save Your Soul, starring opposite Sterling K. Brown. She will next be seen in the upcoming Netflix comedy, Me Time, opposite Kevin Hart and Mark Wahlberg.
